When piped natural gas is not available in your premise, the next best alternative is the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG); as bottled Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is not cost effective for homes and small businesses.
More so with the constant increase in electrical cost, it may be prudent that you consider installing LPG gas to your all electric home/ business to mitigate your monthly energy cost. Casotti Plumbers are always ready and prepared to help you to change-over from your all-electric to gas enabled. We are fully equipped with the knowledge, skills and years of experience in this area if natural gas is not available.
Below is some preliminary consideration for your information.
Adding LPG Gas and Appliances to your home/ business
You have two options when considering LPG bottled gas supply to your home or business;
- LPG gas bottle exchange
- Automatic tanker deliveries
The choice between the two is depended on your LPG consumption, call Casotti Plumber today and we will be able to give you our expert advice on which option work out more economical for your requirements.
Gas bottle and cylinder sizes
LPG gas bottles come in many different sizes, the two most common cylinder sizes for home use are 45kg and 90kg LPG gas cylinders.
45kG LPG Gas Cylinder
The 45kg gas bottles, a typical installation consist of two 45kg cylinders installed in parallel and coupled to an auto or manual change-cover manifold.
This manifold will enable switch over of the gas supply from the empty bottle to the full bottle. And empty bottle replaced without disruption of gas supply.
The 45kg LPG cylinder can also be used with automatic tanker delivery service.
90kg LPG Gas Cylinder
Underground LPG Cylinder gas cylinders are usually installed for automatic tanker delivery services, as the cylinder will be too heavy to be easily moved.
This 90kg may be installed safely underground and out of sight.
210kg LPG Gas Cylinder
The 210kg LPG Gas cylinders are installed for high gas consumption applications; the filling of these cylinders are via automatic tanker delivery services.
Higher storage capacities are available; please call Casotti Plumber for a no obligation consultation to work out your exact requirements.
Gas Safety and Statutory Regulations
Like everything else in life, not all plumbers are trained and experience the same. Many gas fitters are also plumbers but not all plumbers are gas fitters. When installing gas to reticulate, store and connect gas appliances, make sure the plumber you choose is a licensed gas fitter.
You should choose a licensed gas fitter that is familiar with LPG and the installation of the appliances you have selected. Take for example, some gas fitters may not install gas fireplaces or other particular types of appliances. Some specialise in a particular type of appliances, such as hot water heaters.
At Casotti Plumbers we work with you to ensure your gas supply and installation comply with all the statutory regulation and on completion of our work we will issue a Notice of Compliance (NOC) and fix a compliance badge to your installation.
Compliance and Australian Standards
In Western Australia, Energy Safety put in place a licensing system to ensure only competent person carry out gas installing work. Under this scheme, only licensed people can undertake gas installation work. The licensed person shall be required to be conversant with the following statutory standards and regulations.
- Gas Standards Act 1972
- Gas Standards (Gasfitting and Consumer Gas Installations) Regulations 1999
- Amendments 2015-01 Gas Standards (Gasfitting and Consumer Gas Installations) Regulations 1999
- Gas Installation Standards: AS/NZS 5601.1:2013 – General Gas Installation
Please make sure to check the competent person certificate is valid for the required works, as permits and certificates can be restricted to installing, servicing of natural and liquefied petroleum gas.
